Denver is a city that’s going through a boom right now, and has there are many neighborhoods that are changing face and becoming popular spots to live. There’s always a buzz about the up and coming neighborhoods as everyone wants to live in the newest hotspot in the city. Whether it’s a neighborhood that’s changing face from a residential suburb to a trendy place to live, or an area that’s undergone a complete facelift (RiNo is a great example of this), Denver is a very popular place to live with lots of up and coming neighborhoods that are becoming very popular. This neighborhood has a ton of new developments going in, so it’s shifting from a residential area for families to a more dynamic place for young people to live. It’s a close neighbor of the Highlands neighborhood, so it’s often overlooked in favor of that area. However, there are plenty of cool hangouts popping up in Sloans Lake, so it won’t be long before It’s just as popular! If you’re not convinced, just think about the fact that an Alamo Drafthouse is coming soon.
This neighborhood sits west of downtown, tucked between Federal Blvd and Sheridan Blvd. The name comes from the body of water in a park, which happens to be the second largest park in Denver. Living near this natural outpost is a major benefit because you don’t have to travel far to get some nature in your life. Whether you want to go for a run, have a picnic, or just chill in the grass, you’ll learn to love it!
This neighborhood sits southeast of the downtown area, and it was originally planned to be a rich suburb full of impressively large houses. However, economic problems aren’t a new trend, and that stopped some of the most ambitious plans for this area. Eventually, it became home to a major medical center that was part of the University of Colorado, and it remained a relatively low-key area for many years.
In a nice turn of events, the medical school campus was moved to another location to give it a nice boost, and this area is now going through a major redevelopment. Plans to put in a WalMart were protested away by residents, and they’ve been keeping a close eye to make sure that everything’s done tastefully.
Mayfair is definitely an area to keep an eye on, because these types of changes are known to completely change the character and vibe of a neighborhood. It just might become one of the next cool spots of Denver.
This neighborhood is in the north part of the city, and it’s directly south of I-70, just west of I-25. For commuting, you can’t beat that location! You’re practically halfway to the slopes on 70, and 25 will quickly get you to all the other areas of Denver.
It hit some bad luck because of the economy in the 1980s, and it quickly took a turn for the worst. This led to a reputation as a dangerous neighborhood that wasn’t a place anyone wanted to live, and the trend continued. Fortunately, a quality neighborhood association eventually stepped in and turned things around.
Now the area is a lot more calm, clean, and safe. It’s popular among young families, and it’s a slightly more mellow version of its neighbor, the Highlands. But, it’s not so quiet that it doesn’t have any character of its own – and more and more businesses are opening every day.
This area is east of downtown, so it’s often just referred to as the “East Side.” However, this overlooked neighborhood is about to go through some changes that might make it a new hot spot. This was home to the Denver Rock Drill Manufacturing Co. which was a company that unsurprisingly made equipment for drilling rocks. It was a big business in the earlier part of the years, but it eventually closed its doors in the 1980s, and it’s left a big hole ever since.
However, a development company recently announced that they’re investing $250 million to make the unused property into shops, housing, a fancy hotel, and more. The idea is to modernize it in a nice way, but to not do away with the unique character of this massive old factory. If it’s done as nicely as some of the other redevelopment project in Denver, Cole is going to be a very different place in a few years.
Villa Park is west of I-25 in about the same area as the previously mentioned Sloans Lake, except on the other side of Colfax Ave. This has recently been listed as the cheapest neighborhood in Denver, but it’s hard to tell how long that will last. Some of the neighborhoods next door have slowly started becoming safer and more gentrified, and this one is logically next on the list. It already has a location that makes it easy to get around the city, and the crime rates have started to lower. So, It won’t be long before people start snapping up those low-priced properties.
